120 Under 40 – The New Generation of Family Planning Leaders
Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.
I am the country coordinator for the International Youth Alliance For Family Planning and have developed projects aimed at building capacities of youths on family planning (FP) and SRH. I have coordinated more than 10 public sensitization campaigns during which above 2000 youths in rural/urban settings were educated on FP. I have trained above 150 young peer educators on SRH and FP in rural and post conflict zones. I have facilitated the establishment of 6 girls clubs in Post conflict zones where young girls discuss issues on SRH. I have organized a national consultative forum on FP and SRH, where 65 youths nationwide participated, developed and submitted an advocacy letter to government for the integration of youth friendly FP services in Cameroon’s post 2015 Health Sector Strategy.
What sparked your passion for family planning?
The high rate of teenage pregnancies which leads to high rate of school drop out in rural communities, created this passion for family planning. This was couple to the high rate of HIV among youths and early forced marriages in post conflict communities. I decided to volunteer for a community based organization that could enable me realize my dream of empower youths especially young girls with knowledge that could enable them make informed decisions.
